A Course in Miracles
Workbook Lesson 1
"Nothing I See Means Anything"
Interpreted by Roberta Gallop
Daily Welcome: Here this journey of the ACIM workbook begins for us. May the words that come through me give you pause, and help you reflect. May you recognize that the need to know is a call to allow the Wholly Spirit to awaken you to who you truly are. May you have many profound and blessed experiences and make many lasting friendships along the way. May this process of uncovery guide you to the many blessed miracles that await you as a student of the Course.
Prayer: Dear Christ, as we walk on this inspired and designed path together, please help my mind to become honest, openminded, and willing, my being to recognize you, and my thoughts to be still. Please show me who I truly am, every way possible, and also, who I am not. Please grant me the discipline to hang in there, the courage to truly look, and the peace to accept what I find, and the compassionate heart to recognize we are all in this together. Thank you Allways., Amen.
Workbook Lesson: "Nothing I See Means Anything", what a concept. Can you imagine being at the grocery store, visiting family, or being anywhere and have someone look at you and tell you that nothing you see means anything? It would be like that moment, that undefinable moment when you put on your big kid panties and know that the next step you take will change your life forever. I can clearly remember how it felt each time I have done this lesson, there has been a distinct feeling like someone hitting a gong. My whole insides, especially my head felt an internal shiver and I knew I was starting to tap into something deep and profound.
This lesson as simple as it sounds, can start a real war inside my head. First, a feeling of huh, then a lot of chatter and concern about, do they think I'm crazy, do I think I'm crazy, am I crazy, are they crazy, is God crazy, can I really do this. Followed by a strong sense of fear, and a panicked internal scream of "Run Forest Run". I find it really informs the ego that there is a new sheriff in town, one that has its number and ain't goin anywhere. And so begins the journey home to the garden that we truly never left. The slow and deliberate dismantling of a thought system known as the little self, that has kept us locked in the dream of experiencing for ions.
I think when it comes to the true nature of the point of the course my teacher Rev. Devan Jesse Byrne said it best, "You are not a person experiencing the Universe, you are in fact the Universe experiencing your person". (ACIMi L1, intensive) So as you start this uncovering, releasing, and forgiving process please recognize you are beautiful, capable, loving, and magnificent beyond measure, you are Christ.
Tips & Tricks: Under this section I will give you the benefit of my experience of doing the lessons. Some of the lessons are easy, some are not, some have great perceived impact, some do not. But all are part of the way home to God that has not failed me. When it comes to the first lesson I find it helpful to be gentle and loving with myself. Don't analyze or overthink it., don't try to be the best or the worst student. Just carefully read the directions for this exercise and follow directions. Find a place you can be quiet as much as you can, and with the book's help just read the lesson. I have found it doesn't matter if I speak it aloud or in my head, what matters most is that I just allow myself to feel what ever happens as what is supposed to happen. Acceptance goes a long way with the Course, especially the workbook lessons. I would have an index card with the number of the lesson written on it and a reminder when I needed to go over it again.
Upon Closing: Please remember to give yourself hugs and cuddles, you did it, you stepped up. On any journey the first step is always the most important, so be proud of all you have accomplished this day. And please remember tomorrow is a new day, so you can ask God to help you get ready for your daily lesson tomorrow, in your mind tonight. But just one lesson a day please. It was my privilege to meet you and I look forward to the pleasure of your company again tomorrow.
Love & Light,
Riki 🌈
